China has become the world’s largest producer and seller of construction machinery. Between 2020 and 2025, the industry’s export volume nearly tripled. In the first half of this year, China’s construction machinery exports reached US$34.373 billion, a year‑on‑year increase of 21.7%.
Excavating, loading, transporting, handling… at a mine site in Vietnam, more than 120 units of construction machinery are operating in an orderly and efficient manner.
Green is the defining feature of this mine. All 120+ machines – from excavators, loaders and bulldozers to mining trucks – are electric‑powered.
“With Chinese electric construction equipment, our mining cost per tonne has been cut by 50% directly,” said the mine manager, unable to hide his excitement.
This year, driven by the global energy crisis and accelerating green transition, building “green mines” has become a consensus across the industry.

In the field of electrification, Chinese construction machinery holds a leading position globally. Almost all internationally leading companies in the mining sector have set up procurement centres in China.
What underpins this advantage?
– Robust equipment. To cope with the hot, humid and power‑intensive conditions at the Vietnamese mine, domestic manufacturers have custom‑built excavators and loaders with high‑capacity, high‑reliability battery systems, paired with flash‑charging technology. A full charge takes just 45 minutes and provides 8‑10 hours of operation, covering an entire work shift.
– Mature support systems. Some overseas markets require full traceability of each battery from deployment to decommissioning – registration upon activation and manufacturer‑led recycling at end‑of‑life. Leveraging China’s complete new‑energy industrial chain, Chinese companies have extensive experience in full‑lifecycle battery management, offering comprehensive services to overseas customers.
– Total‑solution capability. Mines are often located in remote areas with weak public power grids. Chinese construction machinery manufacturers provide integrated solutions based on “photovoltaic + energy storage + charging + mobile power supply”, building green microgrids that integrate source, grid, load and storage around the mine site. This ensures that electric equipment can operate reliably even in off‑grid mining regions – “power available and power usable”.

“Any downtime at a mine means huge losses. Compared with foreign rivals, we can integrate the best domestic resources and offer complete solutions to ensure smooth deployment of electrification,” said a technical director from a Chinese construction machinery company.
Moreover, China’s construction machinery industry is exporting not only hardware but also smart capabilities. Mature domestic mine management systems and fleet dispatch systems are deeply integrated with hardware, helping overseas mines transform from labour‑intensive operations to “intelligent brain” control.
The tangible benefits are the strongest driver for continued orders from overseas companies. Energy costs typically account for 40%‑50% of mine operating expenses, while electric machinery consumes only one‑third the energy of diesel‑powered equipment. At the same time, electrification greatly simplifies the drivetrain, significantly reducing maintenance and repair costs.
For multinational mining firms, Chinese construction machinery is not only “green to use” but also “green by birth”.
At leading smart factories for construction machinery in China, full‑range products are produced on flexible assembly lines, with AI vision systems detecting assembly deviations in real time. Every data point – from raw materials to finished products – is traceable. Thanks to smart manufacturing, a large share of production is powered by green electricity, which directly helps downstream customers achieve high scores in environmental, social and governance (ESG) assessments.

Beyond selling equipment and electrification solutions, Chinese companies are now also exporting intelligent solutions. Driverless electric rigid dump trucks support full‑scenario operations and mixed fleets of manned and unmanned vehicles, maintaining stable autonomous driving even in rain, fog or dust with visibility as low as 20 metres. Upgraded 5G remote‑control technology enables precise operation of ultra‑large excavators up to 135 tonnes from a distance.
